GetLife Records Just Opened the Roster, And Clippers Are the New Artists
The record deal was built to be exclusive. Not in the aspirational sense, though plenty of people sold it that way. It was exclusive in the structural sense: the gates were real, the gatekeepers were paid to keep them, and the overwhelming majority of people who built genuine audiences around music never saw a contract, a credit, or a check.
Gary Carriero has been inside those gates for long enough to know what they look like from both sides. Founder and President of GetLife Records, a multi-charting artist with distribution running through Sapphire Records and The Orchard across 50-plus countries, he has spent years building the infrastructure that most independent artists never get access to. Today, he pointed it at the people who clip the music.
The GetLife Roster is open at getliferecords.com/clips. It is not a platform. Platforms have users. A label has a roster.
The distinction matters.
When you sign up for a platform's creator program, you get a dashboard and a terms-of-service agreement that can change tomorrow. When GetLife signs you to the roster, you get a permanent number, starting at No. 001. You are in the catalog. The Founding Class, the first 100 accepted members, carries that designation permanently. There is no mechanism to revoke it. The code closes the application page when 100 members are accepted and switches to a waitlist automatically, because 101 is not the Founding Class.
There are no follower minimums. The criteria is taste.
"Signed, not signed up" is how the label has put it, and the sentence does a lot of work. It names the entire problem with every creator economy product that came before it: the implicit downgrade, the sense that the industry was tolerating creators rather than actually welcoming them. The GetLife Roster is a different architecture. The signed language is intentional. The number is intentional. The tier system is intentional.
How It Works
Founding Class members pick live bounties from the GetLife catalog, right now that means Gary Carriero's JOY, FADA, and Don't You Know It, clip and post on their own channels, submit the link, and earn GetLife Credits for every verified view. Credits are on the record from day one. They are redeemable now for merchandise and features, and they will convert to cash when payment rails go live. The credit trail is real; it is being built from the first post, not retrofitted later.
The tier system runs on activity. Street Team is where every member starts. One verified clip gets you to Plugged. Three verified clips or 100,000 total verified views opens the A&R Circle. The House is invite-only.
What It Actually Means
The ladder is designed to go somewhere. The explicit vision is a path where a clipper can develop into an artist, an executive, or an elite creator with a real infrastructure behind them. That is not promotional language. It reflects the actual architecture of how GetLife operates: the label already runs music, fashion through House of Carri, and a daily multi-channel media network. There is a place for people who prove themselves within it.
What Gary is doing here is an economic argument more than anything else. The clip economy has run for years on a fundamentally lopsided arrangement: creators do real promotional work, platforms absorb the relationship, and labels collect the streams. The GetLife Roster is an attempt to correct the credit flow. Real views, real credits, real record of the contribution.
It is not charity. It is not a grant program. It is a business structure where the people doing the work get a seat in the room they helped build.
The Founding Class window is real scarcity. If it is not closed when you read this, it will be.
